Hey Everyone!
We’re building Mirage, a decentralized discussion network designed to be social infrastructure that can’t be switched off. A real alternative to Reddit and other social platforms which are slowly eroding due to power tripping moderators/corrupt governments.. we build mirage as no single company, server, or moderator switch that can erase you.
The mission
Mirage exists because the public square keeps getting fenced off. We want a social layer where people can publish and organize without asking permission, and where exit is real. If you don’t like how one node runs things, you move without losing who you are.
How Mirage is built
At a high level:
-
Many independent nodes, one shared state: nodes mirror a live global state on the Mirage chain, mirage-1.
-
Identity is keys: you are your keypair, not an account owned by a platform.
-
Moderation is local: each node applies its own policies. No global admin key.
Under the hood, Mirage is an app-specific chain plus a web stack:
-
CometBFT-style consensus with core modules for posts, comments, votes, usernames, and moderation primitives.
-
Relayer backend that submits user actions to the chain and keeps UX fast.
-
Client-side keys in the frontend so the product feels like a normal app, not a crypto app.
Why we chose this design
The tradeoff we’re making is simple: build something that normal people can actually use, without giving up censorship resistance.
-
Free usage without a wallet: users can participate without touching crypto.
-
Spam resistance without paywalls: free actions are throttled with lightweight client-side proof-of-work, so nodes aren’t forced to subsidize infinite spam.
-
Sustainability: MIRAGE exists because nothing on-chain is free. Votes, posts, and comments cost real resources (state writes, verification, gas). Subscriptions are about covering capacity and reliability, not buying social authority.
Why we’re here
We’re live on IBC, and we want Osmosis to be a clean access point for MIRAGE so users can get the token and use it in-app with minimal friction.
