# LAB Notes #1

## _A(nother) new chapter begins on Osmosis_

Illustrious scientists, esteemed experimentoors, fellow pioneers of the Cosmos (and beyond)… My **MAD digital family** :

Today we are honored to welcome you to the inaugural **first edition** of the Mad Scientists’ **“Lab Notes”** , which will be published monthly here on the **Osmosis forums** moving forward \<3

In the spirit of ever-developing cohesion, decentralization, independence, and unity… “Lab Notes” aims to serve as another deeply valued and carefully calibrated instrument in our kit; a high-level, broad stroke “guiding compass” and “collective memory” **for the community**.

In the near future, we are also playing with the idea of rebooting the consolidated weekly “ **perks recaps** ” in an exciting new format. As always, the “bangers only” protocol will be in full effect (:

(note: “perks recaps” will not be published here on the forums… though we will be highlighting aspects of “ **Partners and Perks** ” here. More to follow!)

We are so grateful to be publishing here on our home chain’s forums. It feels like perfectly auspicious timing for a homecoming, leading in to the second half of the year… with Osmosis just celebrating it’s 4th birthday, the “thirdening” just complete, **Polaris** just in Open beta, social media in deep disrepair…

For those who’ve journeyed with us since the early days, you’ll recall that our community’s heartbeat once echoed through the familiar corridors of X/Twitter, where **eunoia’s weekly recap threads** served as a vital part our collective memory—a faithful chronicling of experiments, partnerships, perks, and the beautiful chaos that defines our scientific pursuit.

That chapter closed unexpectedly earlier this year, when eunoia’s account was **“permanently suspended”** (permanently banned, with a “de-platform” clause built-in) **without warning, reason, or recourse** … taking with it not just our beautiful threads, but a piece of our community’s connective tissue.

Yet here we stand, not diminished but transformed; at the **start of a new chapter**. Like any proper experiment that encounters an unexpected variable, we adapt, we evolve, and we emerge stronger. Osmosis - our home chain, and our perpetual DeFi laboratory of choice - beckons us with open arms and infinite possibility.

## The MAD LAB Methodology

**The Science Behind: Zerk’s Legendary Lectures**

**Zerk’s** reputation is so well established in the “ **spaces** ” space, I don’t even feel the need to gush more here. Suffice it to say: It is such an honor, and such a privilege to have the **G.O.A.T.** unfailingly hosting **world-class weekly sessions** with some of the hottest and biggest names in the space… Along with plenty of **hidden gems** 😉

Each session has been nothing shy of wonderful, but/and somehow **each session continues to set a new bar**. Spaces like the ones with TOKI, Noble, Cosmos/Stargaze, UNION, and HENLO are a true **masterclass in community, communication, and collaboration** , imho.

I won’t belabor you with a complete recap of each session. Instead, for our purposes here, I will simply post a **list of all of the teams that Zerk hosted on spaces in (just) the first half of this year**:

**The Art That Binds Us: Cudo’s Coveted Creations**

Now, this year, **Cudo** has been cranking out beautiful **new arts** at an unprecedented pace. We have new **banners, meme “remasters”, Cudo originals** … in addition to the new “ **memelab biggies** ”.

After sharing a simple and highly effective **AI image generation method** for our meme competition during **MAD WEEK** , the community has also been churning out **high quality memes and MS content**. **The Mad University: Trendy’s Integral Institution**

**Headmaster Trendy** has reported that the **first-year metrics** for **Mad University** are in… Let’s review the results of this insanely successful long-term study:

- **450+ participants** actively engaged in continuous learning.
- **27,000+ posts** positively filling the timeline with MAD content, and contributing to our collective knowledge base.
- **$20,000+ in rewards** distributed back to the community, rewarding meaningful participation.

We are so stinkin’ proud (:

In our **second year** of University, we want to meaningfully focus on **Quality over Quantity.** We really want to focus on amplifying the signal, while reducing noise. As of May 1st, we have dropped the **daily post threshold** from 2 per day to 1 per day. The intention is that this will create less spam/low quality content on the timeline, as students are allowed more time to **create higher quality content**. This feels more important that ever with the AI/KAITO/etc. takeover of X 😂

We have now also delivered a “soft introduction” of the new **MU Calendar**. For the month of July, we emphatically encourage you to participate in posting once a day with **content focusing on** one of our time-relevant **major partners** : Mitosis Mondays, TOKI Tuesdays, Osmosis/Polaris Wednesdays, Sunrise Thursdays, AXONE Fridays. The calendar also strongly suggests ample “touching grass” time over the weekends… “Madness” on Saturday and Sunday 😉

We have **plans (in motion)** for a far more robust, seamless, and incomparable **Mad University experience**. As always, no guarantees on timelines… we are refusing to rush half-baked modules, favoring polish and alignment. We wholeheartedly believe that you are going to love what is coming as much as we do \<3

In the meantime, we continue **minor/soft rollouts** of cool new easter eggs & features on Discord and X: make sure that you have all of the **roles** that you want on our discord server (highly recommend at least “Alpha” and “Perks”), adopt our **new discord server “tag”** to represent the MAD lab discord wide, and reflect on Mousekenstein’s MAD and sporadic ramblings in the chats and comments 😂

## 🧪 **COMMUNITY: The Living Laboratory**

The heartbeat of any scientific endeavor lies not in its equipment or theories, but in the **passionate, skilled practitioners** who breathe life into abstract possibility. The **Mad Scientists** celebrated their **first birthday** early this April, with Mad University turning one year old just after in late April… just before **Osmosis turned four** at the end of this past month! I will do my best not to wax poetic:

Our first year was by far the **most exciting and meaningful** thing that I have experienced in the whole of my Web 3 journey. Unsurprisingly, our second year is proving to be even more so. It’s been deeply, tremendously fulfilling to watch the community continue to grow and mature, as our LAB continues to expand and earn much deserved reputation, love, **glory** , and respect.

We remain the **most active community in the cosmos** (and beyond), on and off-chain. Since winning **5 “Cosmos Awards”** in early February, no community has even come close to outperforming us in any measure of activity, engagement, reward, art, collaboration, competition, or vibe 😉

All made possible by the living legends - Zerk, Cudo, Trendy, **and each one of you** …

We also want to specifically recognize **martinezz** and **chalkeagle** for all of their fantastic work behind the scenes (: These two Scientists have done so much for the community, working tirelessly in harmony with the founders to build bridges and to bring evermore perks to the community.

### **The Frens Phenomenon**

Our **Frens Mint on Initia** stands as one of the most remarkable community experiments of the year. Despite turbulent (and sometimes downright depressing) market conditions, the poor performance of Initia, prolonged Stargaze/Intergaze FUD, etc…  
This one was genuinely huge. And oh so wholesome (:

As the **first open edition** on Initia, and the first open edition on any platform by the immensely talented Cudo, this initiative attracted **3,755 mints** on Intergaze, brought **2,300 new wallets** to the Initia ecosystem, and generated enough aesthetic appreciation to justify its existence on artistic merit alone.

The experiment’s elegance lies in its structure: zero royalties on our end ( **a gift to the community** ), automatic **Frens role** assignment in our Discord laboratory (Frens roles grant basic access to our server), whitelist for Scraps NFT (Yoya!!), upcoming **whitelist opportunities** (!!), and **VIP points** eligibility (!!!) **for all participants**. This wasn’t merely a mint—it was a masterclass in community-driven value creation and **relentless goodwill** \<3

### **The first graduating class of the Mad University:**

The last few months have brought us lots of **huge promotions** , with a handful of community members becoming the first ever to reach “**Nobel (of MADNESS)”** status!

MASSIVE props and deep congratulations to **Martinezz, CryptoParsel, Marenz, SVigor, Lennard, Klaus, Gero\_Labs, and Anarchia** \<3

Several enrollees have also ascended to **Full Professor** and **Lab Tech** positions. This symbiotic, self-sustaining value creation flywheel enriches the eco-system at large, the community/project, the individual participants, etc… and demonstrates our unwavering commitment to **long-term sustainability, innovative education, and meaningful engagement** … recognizing expertise and nurturing scientific talent from within our ranks. Paradoxically, as our rewards continue to grow, **so does our treasury** 😉

Our birthday celebration brought us troves of priceless community-created memes, songs, IRL Mad Scientist Plushie sightings, and the goodest of vibes. In another paradox, the community was showered with gifts, prizes, and rewards \<3

You have all likely seen the IRL **Sneaky Productions**  **plushies** bringing madness to life in our physical dimension, the dankest of memes peppering the timeline/discord chats… you have likely heard the songs (bangers) introducing weekly spaces… and now, we are beginning to see the work of the:

### **Science Clubs: Specialized Laboratories**

We now have **four active “clubs”:**  **Mad Ape Club, Mouse Club, Red Ruby Rebels, and Chalk & Clones** … representing specialized research groups, where like-minded experimenters can pursue focused investigations while maintaining connection to the broader scientific enterprise.

## 🤝 **PARTNERSHIPS & PERKS: The Symbiosis Spectrum**

In the grand tradition of scientific collaboration, our ecosystem of partnerships continues to flourish like a carefully tended (and highly experimental) garden. Our **ongoing relationships** with projects like **Mitosis/MORSE** and **Sunrise** represent the patient cultivation that defines our approach to partnership building.

Two major themes have continued to manifest in our perks, partnerships, and the eco-system at large - **interoperability and liquidity**. We also see the emergence of strong trends in **AI and privacy**.

**Sunrise:** Testnet v1 & v2 complete, 1st $RISE community round complete

Still building toward an interliquid future where rollups and L1s share liquidity seamlessly, and where sovereign rollup developers can tap into a stack that sets them up for success from day one. Entering a surprise final sprint before mainnet, they are now laser focused on yield-bearing stablecoins, which now represent over $9 billion in value with 1300%+ growth over two years 🤯

_Mainnet launch ahead of TGE; both still expected ~ late Q3 2025_

**Ark Protocol** : In the final stages of their long-awaited **“HUBbits”** mint: the first PFP/NFT collection directly on the HUB. In the early stages of (potentially) creating an **NFT bridge** as a **public good** , finally connecting the NFT cultures, liquidity, and markets of the Cosmos and Ethereum. **COSMOS HUB** : Our newest, and perhaps most innovative partnership… seemingly pre-programmed from our genesis. Through our **“Cosmos Smoothies”** content creation series, we are dedicating our reach, resources, and talent to act as explicit IBC educators/evangelists… blending knowledge up with other exotic ingredients, and creating recipes so MAD that even those with the smoothest of brains (and those with even the most sensitive of constitutions), can digest the meaning of IBC, EVM in Cosmos, etc. Super grateful for all of the amazing work that the SKIP fam are doing (:

## 🌌 **ECOSYSTEM: The Cosmic Context**

As the broader Cosmos/IBC ecosystem continues its relentless expansion, in concert with many of our partners & partnerships highlighted above… Osmosis continues to deepen its service as both anchor point and acceleration portal for this experimental multiverse. The developments surrounding our home chain deserve particular celebration.

### **Osmosis Excellence - a super brief tl;dr of 2025**

**StreamSwap** has achieved permissionless status on Osmosis, representing another step toward truly decentralized infrastructure. **ProtoRev** , approved by governance and built by **SkipProtocol** , continues to demonstrate the power of community-directed development—accumulating OSMO, ATOM, and USDC through sophisticated arbitrage, while burning the collected OSMO tokens. The **3.2+ million OSMO tokens burned** represent not just **deflationary mechanics** , but proof of value creation through **intelligent automation**.

The **seventh consecutive month** of over **$100 million in Bitcoin trading volume** on Osmosis speaks to the platform’s growing role as a **premier destination for institutional-grade DeFi operations**. Since launching the **Bitmosis initiative** in late 2024, the platform has facilitated well over **$1 billion in Alloyed BTC trading volume** —a figure that would have seemed fantastical just years ago.

Perhaps most remarkably, **Osmosis has generated more than $19 million in protocol revenue, with over $41 billion in total trading volume** to date, solidifying Osmosis’ status as _the_ **liquidity hub of the Cosmos** (while also quickly becoming one of the most formidable **liquidity routers** in all of crypto via **Polaris** ).

The **Thirdening** , along with imminent **tokenomics updates** should soon provide another major step toward a more **sustainable, resilient, and value-driven economic model for Osmosis**.

### **Infrastructure Evolution**

**Polaris** is now LIVE IN **OPEN BETA**! We’ve been using the closed beta, daily, for some time now, and we continue to become more and more impressed; especially as support for mythical heavyweights **Hyperliquid, Jupiter** (Solana’s leading aggregator), and **Kraken’s Ink** have been introduced. The integration of **IBC Eureka** as a canonical bridge provider has made Ethereum-Osmosis routing **more seamless than ever**. These are (also) some of the best projects/exchanges in all of crypto, in our opinion… Needless to say, we are thrilled \<3

The **NFT ecosystem on Osmosis** grows stronger each month, bringing the perfect combination of “art, fun, and lore” to complement the chain’s DeFi sophistication. Our community stands proudly as the architects of this Osmosis-native cultural-financial fusion.

## ⚗ **ALPHA ALCHEMY: The Privileged Insights**

With the markets seemingly locked into an indecisive capitulation phase designed to bore us to death, meaningful “alpha” has become exceedingly scarce and precious. This is being compounded by AI drivel and noise and media… and incredibly complex and nuanced geo-political and socio-economic factors and…

I want to openly acknowledge some glaringly obvious, and mostly painful truths. The **$OSMO** token is sitting at an **all time low**. Likewise, the USD value of Mad Scientists and $LAB are both at an all time low. In my opinion, the ATLs in our Lab are mostly due to the price of $OSMO, our trading denomination both on Osmosis and on Stargaze, and $STARS… compounded by pervasive Stargaze FUD, and market-wide **low liquidity** and **poor NFT price performance**.

It’s worth mentioning that **$LAB** still sits just below its **ATH vs. $OSMO** in a **deeply tested consolidation zone** , even after experiencing it’s single longest and most violent downtrend in history. Check out the MACD, RSI, TSI, or whatever indicator you like on the daily and weekly charts…. it’s INSANE. On the longer timeframes, we _appear_ to have already bottomed out (in mid-June), and the chart looks stupid bullish… With virtually every indicator _screaming_ **“over-sold” and “criminally undervalued”** 😉

Now, it’s easy to blame Osmosis, or Stargaze, or the Cosmos, or Ethan Buchman (or anything/anyone else you wish). It’s much harder to accept that virtually all NFTs and FTs alike, and I mean _all_ of them, are suffering similar conditions. Despite all of the “new” stuff going on, **we are in that part of the cycle(s)**.

**The stark reality** : It is unlikely that Crypto tokens that aren’t called $BTC or $HYPE are going anywhere fast until the Federal Reserve cuts interest rates, or another equivalent catalyst manifests. I also want to acknowledge a not so obvious truth: In our household, we have bought _a lot_ of Mad Scientists. Never have we ever sold a single Mad Scientist (or $LAB) that was not to fund another Mad Scientist, or for another specific Mad Scientist play. We still stake $OSMO with the **Mad Scientists Validator**. We still **vote on every prop**. Despite the current price action, and in an admittedly non-linear way, **this is the single best play that we have made on-chain**.

The **value provided** to those holding even just one Mad Scientist **is truly mind-blowing**. Perks, alpha, community and opportunity quickly cover the cost of admission. And even if you don’t seize these (abundant) opportunities… Our money says that Mad Scientists, $LAB, and $OSMO will be worth exponentially more than they are now (/were up until now) in the not so distant future. Hot take warning…: I also refuse to pretend that the art, brand, and community are not the _very_ best that the cosmos has ever seen \<3

We are _the_ quintessential, original, vital **Osmosis NFT project**. We are _the_ (only) **Polaris (aligned) NFT**. We remain **immensely proud** of this, and of the amazing work that the Osmosis team is doing \<3 We absolutely adore the products that they have relentlessly shipped since their inception (did you read the part where they logged **47,000+ code commits** in their first 4 years?).

Hot take #2: without Osmosis there would be no Cosmos (as we know it, anyway).

Hot take #3: MAD SCIENTISTS, POLARIS, and OSMOSIS ARE THE ALPHA.

Okay… on with it 😂 Outside of the LAB, where specific “golden opportunities” remain elusive, our focus sharpens on the **partnerships and IBC-native innovations** that (promise to/) have historically delivered **sustainable value**.

Our bet is on **partner project developments,** with particular attention paid to the ones with **growing treasuries** (burning $OSMO, buying $BTC, and connecting all of the things, anyone? What about the expertly diversified ICF treasury that grew from $17m to ~$275 through all of the drama? Has anyone here heard of “Noble”?), and those with **upcoming TGEs** … especially those with sterling track records and strong/innovative tokenomics and vision.

We have been giving special focus to **AXONE, Mitosis/MORSE, and TOKI** , especially as TGEs for each (legendary) project approach. Our community’s **early involvement in quality partnerships** provide both abundant opportunities and **(huge) potential upside through participation.** This is extremely likely to continue.

As the Mad Scientists continue to come in to their own as **THE multi-chain education hub** , we have also dedicated our focus and resources to **Polaris** (again), the new **Cosmos Smoothies** campaign (now in full swing), **partner thread competitions** (new meta), partner discord roles (new meta meets old meta), infrastructure points (big brain moves), and new partnerships with projects on hyperliquid ( **hyperliquid.** ), berachain (lol), and ethereum (don’t fight the ocean).

For those seeking alpha in uncertain times, the answer may lie not in chasing and in seeking, but in **deepening involvement and understanding** with our existing relationships, seeing the bigger picture, amplifying, and maintaining readiness for when market conditions inevitably shift/improve.

Honorable (re-)mention… **Hyperliquid** :

- A partnership with “ **TOPDOG** ” (hyperliquid telegram app that is actually quite exceptional) has blossomed, and we consistently appear in the top 10 “guilds” (Big thanks to Trendy and Zirpu).

## 🔬 **PHILOSOPHER’S STONE: The Experimental Ethos**

Our community’s essence crystallizes in a simple yet profound motto: **“Everything is an Experiment.”** This philosophical framework serves as both **permission and protection** protocol.

We remain the **loudest, wisest, and most active community in the Cosmos** (and beyond)… a description that captures both our reach and our substance. **On-chain and off** , we demonstrate what happens when collaborative spirit meets competitive instinct, when intellectual rigor meets playful experimentation, and when the self-respecting sovereign meets community pride.

Perhaps most significantly, we’ve cultivated what may be **“the most supportive community one will ever meet”**. This goodwill extends beyond mere politeness—it represents active participation in each other’s success, genuine celebration of external achievements, and persistent willingness to share knowledge, connections, and opportunities.

Through our **unwavering passion for education, collaboration/friendly competition, and our broad “Research and Reward Ethos”** , we have begun a metamorphosis from simply being “the first NFT collection on Osmosis” (with lots of clever “little” innovations), to becoming a nurturing multi-chain **Culture and Education/Development Hub**.

The Mad Scientists have always lead by example, and will continue to do so. As Zerker says “ **You’ve gotta be proud of what you do in life** ”… And I hope that you all feel proud of what you/we have accomplished thus far. I have never been more proud of this community, and to call myself a Mad Scientist.

## **Conclusion: The LAB Awaits**

As we establish this new tradition on Osmosis, we do so with both **gratitude** for our past **and excitement** for our future. The **LAB NOTES** chapter represents more than mere reporting or parroting… These writings will live on as artifact, inspiration, and invitation.

For existing scientists, we hope that these manuscripts will serve as reference points for our collective progress, and as a reminder of how far we’ve traveled together.

For newcomers discovering our laboratory for the first time, we hope that they offer some insight into our methods, values, and the remarkable community that makes **everything possible**.
